The World Curling Federation (WCF) has announced the cancellation of the 2021 World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen.

The competition was scheduled to take place in the Scottish city in October.

The WCF revealed that the decision followed further consultations, with the impact of rescheduled events among the items assessed.

"The decision to cancel was taken due to the impact on the early months of the 2021-2022 season caused by rescheduled events from the 2020–2021 season," a WCF statement read.

"It was felt appropriate to cancel the championship to allow athletes and Member Associations to focus their efforts on the European Curling Championships C-Division and the Pre-Olympic Qualification Event, in what are still expected to be challenging times for hosting events."
