Italian sports brand Macron will kit out the Australian team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The company has been appointed as the country's official competition and training wear supplier, kick-starting the Australian commercial programme for 2022 by becoming the team's first partner.

Macron will produce more than 50,000 items for the team, and already has a presence down under through sports such as Australian rules, rugby and football.

Uniform designs will be unveiled next year, with Australia set to send nearly 400 athletes to Birmingham.

"The enthusiasm Macron has already shown in the development of competition and training wear for our team in Birmingham demonstrates their commitment to ensure our athletes have everything they need to perform at their best," said Commonwealth Games Australia chief executive Craig Phillips.

"Outfitting a team of 400 athletes, plus officials, across the 19 sports and all the different events is no easy task and Macron have shown through their long history in Europe and their work across many sporting teams and leagues, including here in Australia, their enthusiasm for working in high performance sport.

"From our gymnasts, to weightlifters, Para-sports athletes, marathoners in athletics, team sport athletes in hockey, rugby, netball and cricket, our team is a diverse a group of athletes that exists, and Macron is committed to ensuring they have the best possible performance wear for competition and training."

Macron has made a commitment to the environment, and is making an increasing number of garments using "eco-fabric".

"We enjoy our partnerships with our sporting clubs in Australia's national leagues such as the AFL, NRL and A-League, however this will be the first time the Macron hero logo will be seen on the competition and training wear for a national team at a multi-sport Games," said Macron chief executive Gianluca Pavanello.

"It is a significant step forward for us and we look forward to providing the best possible performance wear for Australia's best athletes."

Birmingham 2022 is due to run between July 28 and August 8 next year.
