United States’ William Shaner clinched victory in the men’s 10 metres air rifle event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Osjek began.

Shaner led throughout the elimination stage of the final at the Pampas Shooting Range in the Croatian city.

The 20-year-old American finished top of the standings with a score of 250.5 points.

Russia’s Vladimir Maslennikov was the runner-up on 249.2 points, while local shooter Petar Gorsa of Croatia was eliminated in third place on 227.2.

The women’s event saw Hungary’s Ester Mészáros win gold after a close contest with Slovenia’s Živa Dvoršak.

The 18-year-old edged ahead in the final rounds to win by a score of 250.6 points to Dvorsak’s 249.8.

Italy’s Sofia Ceccarello completed the podium places on 226.6 points.

Bulgaria’s Antoaneta Kostadinova was a convincing winner of the women’s 10m air pistol event, topping the standings on 240.0 points.

Germany’s Carina Wimmer and Ukraine’s Yulia Korostylova trailed the winner with score of 237.5 and 216.8 points, respectively.

The final title of the day was earned by Iran’s Javad Foroughi, who triumphed in the men’s 10m air pistol competition.

Foroughi achieved a score of 243.0 points in the final, with Serbia’s Damir Mikec settling for second place on 241.7 points.

The bronze medal was secured by India’s Chaudhary Saurabh on 220.0 points.

Six titles are set to be on offer tomorrow with the men’s and women’s individual skeet events, as well as four team competitions.

The World Cup is among the final shooting events to take place prior to next month’s rearranged Olympic Games in Tokyo. 

The event is taking place at the same venue used for the European Championships, which concluded on June 5.
