In the women's singles Hursey, who celebrated her birthday yesterday with a win, added another - this time beating French teenager Prithika Pavade 11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6.

Pavade recently qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Later in the day, Hungary's Bernadett Balint was made to work hard for her win over England's Charlotte Bardsley - who sits more than 700 places below her in the world rankings and just inside the top 1,000.

Balint emerged victorious in straight games winning 16-14, 13-11, 11-3.

Young home player Maciej Kubik started the day with a 11-6, 12-10, 11-7 win over Austrian David Serdaroglu in the preliminary round of the men's singles, but would be knocked out in the second preliminary round against Greece's Ioannis Sgouropoulos 11-6, 11-8, 11-4.

Portugal's Diogo Carvalho defeated Serbian Marko Jevtovic 11-4, 11-8, 11-9 in the second round too, while Croatian Filip Zeljko won 11-8, 11-7, 11-8 against Hungary's Tamas Lakatos.

Turkish player Ibrahim Gunduz won in straight games against Florent Lambiet of Belgium 11-9, 11-7, 11-4, Switzerland's Lionel Weber is through following a 11-3, 11-7, 9-11, 12-10 victory over Jakub Zelinka of Slovakia and Tobias Rasmussen of Denmark defeated England's Samuel Walker 13-11, 11-9, 11-6.

Finally, Luka Mladenovic of Luxembourg is through after a straight games win over Ukraine's Yaroslav Zhmudenko 11-7, 11-8, 14-12 and Belarus' Pavel Platonov beat Benedek Olah of Finland 11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8.
