The Maldives Olympic Committee has hailed the appointment of one of its officials to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic tournament ©MOC

The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has offered congratulations to Ahmed Shiham on his appointment as a badminton official at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Shiham is one of 20 technical officials who have been appointed to the Games by the Badminton World Federation.

"Wishing Mr. Ahmed Shiham all the best in Tokyo Olympics 2020," the MOC said.

Badminton Maldives also paid tribute to Shiham.

"This is the second time any Maldivian will be officiating in an Olympic Games badminton event," the governing body said.

"This is another remarkable achievement for Badminton Maldives and Ahmed Shiham.

"Wishing Ahmed Shiham all the best in Tokyo Olympics 2020."

The badminton tournaments at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are due to take place between July 24 and August 2 at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza.

A total of 172 athletes are due to compete in five events - men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
