China earned three gold medals in women’s events on the opening day of the World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai.

Guo Lingling achieved world records with each of her three attempts in the women’s under-41-kilogram event in the United Arab Emirates.

Guo lifted 105kg with her first attempt of the competition to secure gold and eventually topped the standings with an effort of 107kg.

Nigeria’s Jonah Ben finished as the silver medallist on 104kg, with Indonesia’s Ni Nengah Widiasih placing third on 97kg.

The women’s 45kg event saw Cui Zhe clinch gold with a winning lift of 105kg.

Kazakhstan’s Gulim Kurmanbayeva was second on 85kg, followed by Singapore’s Nur Aini Mohamad on 81kg.

Tan Yujiao delivered China’s third gold medal of the competition, in the 67kg category.

Tan achieved a lift of 125kg to secure victory, ending 3kg clear of Egypt’s Fatma Omar.

Russia’s Nadezhda Sycheva completed the podium spots on 111kg.

The first men’s event of the competition saw Jordan’s Omar Qarada take gold.

Qarada achieved a best lift of 175kg in the final to win ahead of Russia’s Vladimir Balynets, who was the runner-up on 168kg.

Hungary’s Nandor Tunkel was third on 157kg.

Competition will continue tomorrow in Dubai.

The event is the final World Cup of the qualification period for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
