Hosts Japan will open the women’s 3x3 basketball tournament when the discipline makes its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 next month.

Japan’s women’s team will face the ROC side in the opening game of the eight-team tournament on July 24.

"Neutral" Russian athletes and teams are competing under the ROC banner at the Games under the terms of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision in the Russian Anti-Doping Agency case.

China’s match against Romania will be the second contest of the women’s tournament at the Aomi Urban Sports Park.

The men’s competition will begin with Poland and Latvia competing in the morning session, followed by China’s clash with Serbia.

All eight teams in the men’s and women’s competitions will compete in the pool phase of the tournament.

Each team will play one another across the first four days of competition.

The top six teams will advance from the pool phase, with the first- and second-place teams advancing directly to the semi-finals.

The teams finishing from third to sixth in the pool stage will compete in the quarter-finals on July 27.

Semi-finals and medal matches will take place on July 28.

Hosts Japan feature in the women’s tournament alongside China, Mongolia, Romania, the United States, France, Italy and ROC.

Japan are joined in the men’s tournament by Serbia, ROC, China, Japan, Poland, The Netherlands, Latvia and Belgium.
