The Netherlands finished were second at the September 2019 European and Africa Olympic baseball qualifier to earn their spot.

The winner in Mexico will be the sixth and final participant in the upcoming Olympic baseball tournament, joining number one Japan, number two United States, number three South Korea, number five Mexico and number 18 Israel.

Tokyo 2020 will be the first Olympics to feature baseball since Beijing 2008.

"The Tokyo 2020 baseball picture is five games from being completed after a hard-fought and challenging road that saw international baseball shut down for more than a year and a half," said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.

"The team that wins in Puebla will complete the six-team field for the historic return of Olympic baseball, which promises to be one of the most spectacular and followed sporting events of the Tokyo 2020 Games."
