International Volleyball Federation President Ary Graça joined the "bubble" today at the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Rimini in Italy as the top teams entered the final two weeks of the competition.

Graça could enter the VNL bubble after undergoing a mandatory 72-hour isolation period and strict testing regime.

"I am very excited to be joining the VNL 2021 bubble," he said.

"For teams from all four corners of the globe to be here in Rimini and play in a safe environment is testament to the efforts of the FIVB, Volleyball World and the event organisers RCS Sports and Events to implement effective health and sanitary protocols.

"The level of competition and sporting excellence is always elite at this competition, and it is clear that teams are holding nothing back in pursuit of the coveted title of VNL champions.

"I look forward to seeing how the competition will unfold over the next few weeks and wish all teams the very best of luck."

Graça was on hand to see his native Brazil move up to second in the VNL women’s event with a 3-0 victory over Thailand, who are bottom of the 16-country tournament, at the RDS Stadium.

Brazil remain five points behind the United States, whose amazing record at this event shows no sign of ending.

They recorded their 12th consecutive victory in the tournament with a 3-1 defeat of fourth-placed Turkey to become the first country to book their place in the semi-finals.

Japan bounced back from their defeat to the US last night with a 3-1 win over Belgium to keep alive their semi-final hopes, leapfrogging Turkey into third.

Russia beat Serbia 3-0 to keep pace with the teams at the top of the League.

They leapt above The Netherlands, who having beaten the hosts Italy last night, were themselves defeated today, losing 3-1 to the Dominican Republic.

Italy continues to struggle at the bottom, losing 3-0 to China, while South Korea beat Canada 3-2 and Germany defeated Poland 3-0.

There is now a three-day break for the women, with the men set to resume their VNL tomorrow.

The highlight of the matches is set to be leaders Brazil taking on fourth-placed Slovenia.
