The new Albanian National Olympic Committee (KOKSH) Executive Committee has held its first meeting since its controversial election in April, with the rearranged Tokyo 2020 Olympics at the heart of its agenda.

They were elected at the KOKSH General Assembly on April 17, with the group meeting for the first time at the Olympic Park in the capital, Tirana.

Approximately seven or eight athletes are expected to compete for Albania at the Olympics, who outlined the likely team for the Games.

European 3,000 metres steeplechase silver medallist and 2015 European Games 1500m champion Luiza Gega is among the names slated to compete.

European weightlifting champion Briken Calja and European pommel horse gymnastics champion Matvei Petrov are set to represent their nation too as well as sport shooter Manuela Delilaj, long jumper Izmir Smajlaj and swimmers Nikol Merizaj and Kledi Kadiu.

Other athletes could be added following the final rankings from sports, where invitations could add to the eight listed.

Albania had six athletes represent the country at Rio 2016.

All of the Olympic delegation will be given the COVID-19 vaccine too.

Financial support has been confirmed for four of the nation's elite athletes with Gega receiving €16,200 (£13,900/$19,700), Calja getting €24,400 (£21,000/$29,700), Smajlaj also €24,400 and Merizaj €5,000 (£4,300/$6,100).

The Executive Committee approved Albania's participation at the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games in Algeria too, as well as the European Youth Olympic Festivals next year in Banská Bystrica in Slovakia and Voukatti in Finland for summer and winter respectively.

The Albanian Archery Federation also received approval to compete at a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, receiving funding.

A three-month employment contract for secretary general Stavri Bello was confirmed until September 1, ending after the Olympics.

In principle, the next General Assembly is set to be held after September, where Smajlaj is set to be approved as an athlete representative of the Executive Committee.

New KOKSH President Fidel Ylli's elections has been controversial, with the Albanian Football Association reportedly taking him to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, claiming his appointment involved irregulatories.

He took over as head of KOKSH following the dismissal of Viron Bezhani in January, who was ousted during a secret ballot at the Extraordinary General Assembly.
