Spain and Turkey were among the nations to secure Tokyo 2020 quota places for their nations at the World Archery continental qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in Antalya.

The qualifier took attention today at the Turkish venue, which is hosting the ongoing European Archery Championships.

Spain’s Elia Canales earned one of four berths on offer in the women’s recurve event.

The 19-year-old, who will compete in the mixed team recurve European Championship final this weekend, finished top of qualification with a score of 661 to earn top seeding.

Canales won the European Grand Prix title at Antalya in April and continued her strong record at the venue by overcoming France’s Melanie Gaubil 6-4 in the qualifier.

France’s Lisa Barbelin triumphed 6-2 against Slovakia’s Denisa Barankova to claim the second spot on offer, while Yasemin Anagoz triumphed 7-3 over Gulnas Coskun in an all-Turkish match.

The final last four match saw Spain’s Ines De Valasco overcome Estonia’s Laura Nurmsalu 6-2.

Barbelin would ultimately triumph in the tournament with a 6-2 semi-final win over Canales, followed by a victory over Anagoz by the same scoreline.

The all-Spanish bronze medal match saw De Valasco win 7-3 against Canales.

The result is expected to see De Valasco nominated as Spain's representative for Tokyo 2020 in the event.

With France, Turkey and Spain each securing a quota place, the fourth and final spot was awarded to Slovakia after Barankova placed seventh overall.

The men’s competition was won by Turkey’s Mete Gazoz.

The Rio 2016 Olympian earned his country a quota place by beating Poland’s Kacper Sierakowski 6-0 in the quarter-finals.

France’s Thomas Chirault beat Slovenia’s Riga Ravnikar 6-4 in the second quarter-final, before his compatriot Jean-Charles Valladont overcame Germany’s Maximilian Weckmueller 7-3.

Germany’s Florian Unruh earned a quota place, courtesy of a 7-3 win over Luxembourg’s Jeff Henckels.

Gazoz overcame Chirault 6-4 in the opening semi-final, with Valladont a 7-3 winner against Unruh.

The final saw Gazoz ease to a 6-0 victory against Valladont, while Unruh beat Chirault 6-2 to round off the top three.

With France having two athletes in the top four, the final quota spot was awarded to Slovenia due to Ravnikar’s fifth placed finish.
