Konstantinos Thomaidis has died at the age of 87 ©World Taekwondo

World Taekwondo Europe has mourned the passing of former auditor and President and secretary general of the Hellenic Taekwondo Federation Konstantinos Thomaidis.

Thomaidis has died at the age of 87.

He was the long-term President and secretary general of the National Federation of Greece.

In 1996, Thomaidis was honoured for his dedication to taekwondo and received the title of Honorary President of the Hellenic Taekwondo Federation.

Thomaidis was an auditor for the European Taekwondo Union, which is now called World Taekwondo Europe.

To date, Greece has won one gold and three silver medals at the Olympic Games in taekwondo - with their only title coming in the men's under-58-kilogram category at Sydney 2000.

Michalis Mouroutsos defeated Spain's Gabriel Esparza in the final.
