Peder Fredricson had a day to remember in St Tropez after steering Valkenswaard United to victory in the Global Champions League (GCL) before gaining individual success in the Global Champions Tour (GCT) in the French city.

The Swede, riding Catch Me Not, won the jump-off in 34.98secs to see off compatriot Henrik von Eckermann who clocked 35.91 on board King Edward.

Frenchman Simon Delestre, riding Hermes Ryan, claimed bronze in 35.74.

"I wish everyday was like this," said Fredricson.

"Lucky for me it was my day, I was nervous with all the riders still to come."

Fredricson now claims the coveted ranking leader’s armband as he leads the way on 96 points ahead of Bart Bles on 76 and Britain’s Scott Brash on 68.

Earlier in the day, Fredricson teamed up with Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander to claim Global Champions League victory in a thrilling showdown with Shanghai Swans.

Germany’s Christian Ahlmann and Austria’s Max Kuhner put Swan in front in the opening round only to fall short as Fredricson and Tops-Alexander responded in fine fashion.

Fredricson, riding H&M All In, and Tops-Alexander, on board Identity Vitseroel, registered a winning total of 135.59.

Ahlmann, mounting Solid Gold Z, and Kuhner, riding Eic Coriolis Des Isles, finished second with 138.15.

"It is the first time I’ve ridden on the team this year and I am very happy to be with Peder and thankfully he went fast," said Tops-Alexander.

"I felt a little bit of pressure when I came into the ring because I heard the announcer say ‘It is all in the hands of Edwina’!"

Fredricson added: "To be honest I thought we were going to be second today once we had ridden, but it was our day today and we were a bit lucky.

"Time is always important in these classes so it was on my mind throughout."

The last spot on the podium went to London Knights pair Nicola Philippaerts of Belgium and Ben Maher of Britain after scoring 132.81 on board Ginger-Blue and Katanga V/H Dingeshof respectively.

The result ignited the battle of the top teams as Valkenswaard United sit on 77 points only three points adrift of Shanghai Swans at the top of the GCL ranking.

Madrid In Motion sit in third place with a points tally of 51 as the GCL race heads to Valkenswaard in The Netherlands with the next stage scheduled to run from June 4 to 6.

Fredricson also emerged victorious in the Prix PremiuMares jump-off yesterday.

Riding Catch Me Not, Fredricson claimed the 1.50-metre event in 34.66.

Frenchman Julien Epaillard, on board Calgary Tame, secured second spot with 34.87 while Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten, mounting Elwikke, rounded off the top three with 37.34.

"There were some super fast riders in the jump-off, so I knew it was going to be really fast," said Fredricson.

"I won it to the last, I thought it was going to be a long eight strides, but then I saw them ride it and thought I would try to do seven."
