Norway’s Jon-Hermann Hegg defeated compatriot Henrik Larsen to win gold in the men’s 50-metre rifle 3 positions at the European Shooting Championships in Osijek in Croatia.

Hegg finished with a winning total of 461 points after scoring 155.2 in kneeling, 311.5 in prone and 149.5 in standing.

Larsen pushed Hegg all the way only to finish just short with a score of 459.9.

Belarusian Yury Shcherbatsevich notched 448.9 to secure the bronze medal, while Russian Sergey Kamenskiy missed out on a podium place after posting 439.

Nadine Messerschmidt, Katrin Butterer and Christine Wenzel steered Germany to victory in the women’s skeet team final.

The German trio claimed a 6-4 victory over the Italian team of Diana Bacos, Martina Bartolomei and Chiara Cainero.

The bronze medal was won by Russians Alina Fazylzyanova, Nadezda Konovalova and Zilia Batyrshina after defeating the Czech Republic 7-3.


Menelaos Michaelides, Nicolas Vasiliou and Georgios Achilleos combined to help Cyprus claimed gold in the men’s skeet team contest.

The Cypriots saw off the Russian team of Sergey Demin, Nikolay Pilshchikov and Alexander Zemlin 6-2 in the final.

Tammaro Cassandro, Luigi Lodde and Gabriele Rossetti of Italy ran out 6-2 winners against the Czech Republic in the bronze medal match.

There was an all-Russian final of the junior 25m rapid fire pistol mixed team event with Nikita Mann and Ekaterina Chikanova crowned champions after beating Aleksei Iarichin and Albina Bevz 10-2.

The other junior competition was won by Italy courtesy of their victory in the women’s 50m three position rifle team final.

Paola Paravati, Virginia Lepri and Sofia Benetti triumphed with a 48-38 win over the Swiss team of Jennifer Kocher, Marta Szabo Bouza and Sandra Arnold.

Katerina Stefankova, Sara Karasova and Veronika Blazickova claimed bronze after defeating Serbia 49-35.
