Azerbaijan is set to host the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships, with competition taking place behind closed doors.

Competition is scheduled to begin tomorrow and continue until Saturday (May 29).

Qualification will place tomorrow with the women’s individual event, trios and aero step competitions the focus of the opening day.

An Opening Ceremony will additionally be held tomorrow evening.

Finals will be held in the women’s individual event, trios and aero step events on Friday (May 28), with qualification scheduled in the remaining disciplines.

Men’s individual, mixed pairs, groups and aero dance competitions will take place on Sunday.

Japan’s Saito Mizuki and Kitazume Riri will not defend their men’s and women’s world titles in Azerbaijan.

Hungary’s Daniel Bali will be among the contenders in the men’s competition, with the five-time medallist seeking a maiden world title.

He could face competition from Ivan Veloz of Mexico.

Anastasiia Ziubina, the 2018 silver medallist, will seek to earn the women’s individual world title.

Ziubina will compete for the Russian Gymnastics Federation at the event, due to the terms of the country’s two-year sanction from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Italy’s Michela Castoldi and Davide Donati will seek a third consecutive title in the mixed pair event, with the duo set to retire following the FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships.
