The United States went ahead with their match against Trinidad and Tobago at the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Beach Soccer Championship in Costa Rica despite one if its team members having to isolate after a positive COVID-19 test.

A player and staff member of the Dominican Republic are already isolating after testing positive before the opening round of matches at Sports Complex Fedefutbol-Plycem in Alajuela.

The US, winners in 2013 and runners-up to Mexico at the last Championships in 2019, earned a second Group C win by beating Trinidad and Tobago 5-2.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic team, making its debut in this event, suffered a second heavy loss as it went down 10-2 in Group B to a Bahamas side for whom Lesly St Fleur scored five goals.

El Salvador, bronze medallists on the last three editions of this competition, stayed top of Group B with a 7-1 victory over Guatemala.

Hosts Costa Rica remained unbeaten in Group C with a 5-1 result against Turks and Caicos Islands.

The day’s action had started with an 8-1 for Panama against Belize in Group A.

The Championship, which is due to conclude on Sunday (May 23), involves 11 CONCACAF Member Associations playing for the two slots available for the Confederation in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, due to take place in Moscow between August 19 and 29 this year.
