The Russian Sambo Championship for the hearing impaired saw 52 athletes compete over three days in Zelenograd.

The Russian Sambo Federation say the event, held for the seventh time, featured athletes from 16 regions of the country.

Nine weight divisions were contested at the Championships, with Kirill Shapetko and Alexey Saving emerging as the winners of the 52 and 57 kilogram events respectively.

Dmitry Beloborodov topped the podium in the 62kg weight division, while Sergey Krikunov and Ruslan Askerov triumphed in the 68kg and 74kg categories.

"The competition was held at a high organisational level thanks to the help in its holding of brothers Vladimir and Viktor Nevzorov, famous athletes who were previously members of the USSR national sambo team," Emelyanov said.

"The high status of the tournament was also confirmed by the presence at the championship of the President of the All-Russian Sports Federation of Sports for the Deaf Valery Rukhledev, who is the 1971 SAMBO champion of the USSR."

The Russian Sambo Federation said the Republic of Dagestan were the winners of the overall team prize.

The Chelyabinsk region were second, with Moscow’s representatives completing the top three.
