Four-time winners Finland edged out the Czech Republic to record their second consecutive victory at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 World Championship in Texas.

Samu Tuomaala scored the winning goal 19 seconds from time to give Finland a battling 6-5 triumph in the Group B clash at Comerica Center in Frisno.

Finland had trailed 5-3 before mounting a late comeback to claim maximum points and preserve their unbeaten start to the Championship.

Tuomaala halved the deficit to one before Samu Salminen restored parity with three-and-a-half minutes remaining.

There was enough time for a winner and it came from Tuomaala, whose rising shot found the back of the net to seal a last-gasp victory.

"We are very happy about the win," said Finnish coach Petri Karjalainen.

"Obviously it was a hard-fought game.

"We were a little bit lucky.

"I have to give every credit to the Czechs.

"We were in big trouble most of the game, but somehow we found a way to hang in there."

Canada also won their second straight game as they beat Latvia 4-2 in Group A at Children's Health StarCenter.

Quick-fire goals in the second period from Logan Stankoven and Mason McTavish handed Canada the advantage before Anri Ravinskis pulled one back for Latvia.

Dylan Guenther restored Canada's two-goal advantage but Latvia would not go away as Sandis Vilmanis made it 3-2.

McTavish secured the points for Canada with his second of the game in the final minute as Canada moved top of Group A.

The tournament continues with four matches tomorrow.
