He won the gold medal in the over-98 kilograms combat sambo category at the 2020 Russian Sambo Cup in Kstovo, held from October 2 to 4.

Poleyan defeated Gadzhi Omaraov in the final of the competition and looks set to keep his title from the event, despite testing positive for a prohibited substance or its metabolites.

"The All-Russian Sambo Federation, following the decision by Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee RAA RUSADA, rendered the decision that made athlete Artur Poleyan ineligible for four years for violation of art. 2.1 of the All-Russian Anti-Doping Rules, the period commencing on October 19, 2020," RUSADA said in a statement.
