Para teqball player Attila László made history by competing against able-bodied opposition including world number three Apor Györgydeák this weekend at the Challenger Cup in Budaörs in Hungary.

László is the first Para teqball player to feature at this level and was given a glass trophy adorned with the message "The First Para Teqball Player".

The 32-year-old is a below-knee amputee and better know as a motorsport marshal, being given the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile's Outstanding Official of the Year award in 2020 - two years after being struck by a car while acting as a pit-lane marshal, which led to his leg being amputated.

László was on the receiving end of a 12-2, 12-1 defeat against the Romanian Györgydeák, but fared better against other group opponents Barna Kovácsfi and Luca Horváth.

Hungary's László even won the first set against compatriot Horváth, but ultimately fell 11-12, 12-8, 12-2.

Kovácsfi beat László 12-3, 12-3 in another all-Hungarian clash.

László's participation in Budaörs follows the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) formally launching Para teqball last month.

"I am very proud to represent the Para teqball community by competing in an extremely high-level teqball event alongside the world’s best players," László said before the tournament.

"The recent launch of Para teqball has inspired me, and hopefully a whole new generation of teqers, and made us realise that we should never set ourselves limits.

"I am grateful for the support FITEQ is providing to para teqball players and the platform they are giving us.

"I hope I can showcase the skill and tenacity of makes para teqball players in this weekend’s Challenger Cup event and in doing so encourage more people to reach for their dreams."

Györgydeák was defeated in the last 16 and two-time world champion Ádám Blázsovics of Hungary went on to win the event.
