Poland's Alicja Klasik and Antoni Socha won cadet épée titles on penultimate day of the Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships in Egypt.

Seeded second in the women's event, Klasik defeated Greek 18th seed Andriana Theodoropoulou 15-6 in the last 16 at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex.

She then defeated South Korean Kang Ji-hyun 15-10 in the quarter-finals, followed by a tight 15-14 victory over American Ketki Ketkar in the semi-finals.

Klasik met Russian ninth seed Ekaterina Kolbeneva in the final.

Kolbeneva beat Romania's Emma Sont, fellow Russian Galina Krymova and Estonian Susanne Lannes to reach the final.

The final result would go the way of Klasik, who claimed the gold medal with a 15-12 victory.

Lannes and Ketkar won the bronze medals.

Thirteenth Socha started his route to the final in the men's competition with a last-16 win over Belarus' Mihail Puchkovskiy, triumphing 15-11.

The Polish fencer then won 15-14 against Bulgarian 28th seed Rahim Rashaida, followed by a 15-13 win over South Korea's seed Kim Do-wan in the semi-finals.

Socha faced Russian seventh seed Artem Sarkisyan in the final and won 15-13.

Sarkisyan had to settle for silver.

Skyler Liverant, beaten 15-7 by Sarkisyan in the semi-finals, earned a bronze medal along with Kim.

Tomorrow will be the last day of competition in Cairo, with junior men's and women's team épée events due to take place.
