The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has announced it will collaborate with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to help contribute to the UN's sustainable development goals.

The GEF says each organisation will bring expertise and focus on four sustainable development goals aimed at empowering the youth of the world.

The sustainable development goals will include work on boosting health and well-being.

Quality education, gender equality and goals-oriented partnership will also be targeted as part of the collaboration.

The GEF says it shares UNESCO's vision for a safe, healthy, and inclusive society in which youth are active agents of change.

The two organisations will reportedly seek to support the sustainable development goals by using pooled resources and activating the world’s esports and sporting communities.

The organisations say they will develop pathways for "building back better" as part of UNESCO’s Fit for Life initiative and the GEF’s #Elevate2030 programme.

UNSECO’s Fit for Life initiative is a flagship programme aimed at responding to the immediate physical and mental health effects of the current coronavirus pandemic.
