The Chilean Olympic Committee (COCH) has announced the creation of the "More Female Athletes" programme that aims to promote the participation of women in sports where there is a predominance of men.

The campaign has been launched as part of the COCH’s commemoration of International Women’s Day held on March 8.

Member Federations are expected to take part in a COCH survey that aims to detect which sports have far more men than women playing.

Once the data has been collected, the COCH plans to work with the Member Federations to find solutions to redress that balance in the short and medium term.

"We are very interested in increasing the participation of women in sport on and off the field," said Patricia López, director of the COCH and head of the Community Relations Area.

"This year we want to implement an innovative programme that has real effects in the disciplines that are less balanced in terms of gender.

"We are sure that with the help of the Federations, we can make a difference."
