Sweden and Britain have climbed to the top of the standings in the men's and mixed categories at the World Sailing 2021 470 World Championship following a single round today in Vilamoura in Portugal.

In the men's race today, Sweden's Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergström finished second, enough to go top of the regatta on a net total of 24 points.

The closest challengers are Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov of the Russian Yachting Federation (RYF), who finished third, now sitting level on points.

Portugal's Diogo Costa and Pedro Costa finished fourth, bringing them up into third on 26 points in the standings, while Spanish pair Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodriguez had their worst result of the Championship so far, finishing 20th and dropping from top spot to fourth.

Greece's Stuart McNay and David Hughes moved up to fifth on 49 points.

Austria's Nikolaus Kampelmühler and Thomas Czajka won today's race, moving up to 17th in the standings.


Britain's Amy Seabright and James Taylor moved into the lead in the mixed class on 23 points, following a win today.

Israel's Gil Cohen and Noam Homri finished sixth in the race, moving down to second with 26 points.

France's Hugo Le Clech and Colombe Julia finished seventh, jumping from fifth to third, with a net total of 37, the same total of Italy's Maria Vittoria Marchesini and Bruno Festo who could only finish 14th.

Spain's Patricia Reino Cacho and Pablo Garcia Cranfield are close behind on 39 after claiming fourth today.

Spain's Silvia Mas Depares and Patricia Cantero Reina still lead the women's regatta, finishing fifth today, but have extended their lead to 10 points, now sitting on a net total of 26.

France's Camille Lecointre and Aloise Retornaz won the sole race today to move back into second on 36, while Dutch pair Afrodite Zegers and Lobke Berkhout finished third, enough to bring them into third overall on 45 points.

Israel's Noya Bar-Am and Shahar Tibi struggled the most today, moving from second to fourth with a 21st place finish.

With another low finish already being discarded, the pair are down in fourth on 48, while Italy's Elena Berta and Bianca Caruso finished sixth in the race, enough to bring them up to fifth.
