Russian shooters triumphed against those from the Czech Republic in both the men’s and women’s skeet team events making their debut at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Cup in Cairo.

Both the Czech men’s and women’s teams had topped qualifying the previous day, but they were unable to maintain their dominance.

In the women’s gold medal match, the Russian trio of Natalia Vinogradova, Zilia Batyrshina and Alina Fazylzyanova defeated their opponents Anna Sindelarova, Barbora Sumova and Martina Skalicka 6-2.

Bronze went to the Kazakhstan trio of Olga Panarina, Rinata Nassyrova and Assem Orynbay, who outscored India’s Ganemat Sekhon, Kaerttiki Singh Shaktawat and Pannaaz Dhaliwal 6-4.

The men’s match saw the Russian trio of Sergey Demin, Aleksey Skorobogatov and Alexander Zemlin earn a 6-0 win over the Czech team of Tomas Nydrle, who finished fourth in the individual men’s skeet, Milos Slavicek and Jakub Tomecek.

India won the men’s bronze medal match as Gurjoat Khangura, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa beat Kazakhstan’s trio of David Pochivalov, Eduard Yechshenko and Alexandr Mukhamediyev 6-2.

In the previous day’s women’s qualifying the Czechs scored 485, four more than Russia, while Kazakhstan, with 476, and India, with 462, qualified for the bronze medal match.

In the men’s qualifying the Czech Republic had qualified top with 298, six more than Russia, with India, on 491, securing a place in the bronze medal match against Kazakhstan, who scored 490.

Tomorrow is due to see the final of the mixed team event.

Attention will turn to trap competitions next week, with two days of individual competition due to conclude on March 2, with the mixed team event set to end the following day.

Men’s and women’s team events are scheduled to bring the World Cup to a close on March 4.
