Newly-crowned snowboard cross world champions Charlotte Bankes of Britain and Lucas Eguibar of Spain will look to continue their successes when the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Cross World Cup resumes in Reiteralm in Austria tomorrow.

Both snowboarders have yet to make it on to the podium in this World Cup season, but are still regarded some of the best on the circuit.

However, one of Bankes' biggest challenges will be Italy's Michela Moioli, who had to settle for the silver medal in Idre Fjäll in Sweden.

Moioli won the season opener in Chiesa and finished fourth the following day - making her one of the front runners in the overall standings.

However, she currently sits 10 points behind the Czech Republic's Eva Samková and the United States' Faye Gulini in the standings.

The Czech athlete won the second race in Chiesa after winning bronze in the first, while Gulini finished runner-up in both finals.

Another outside favourite could be Australia's Belle Brockhoff, who was part of the Australian mixed team who became world champions alongside Jarryd Hughes.

Eguibar stole the show in Sweden, but world silver medallist Alessandro Hämmerle remains the favourite so far after winning the second day in Chiesa.

The Austrian is the defending World Cup champion and could take the lead in the overall standings with a strong performance on home soil.

Only nine points separate him from the unexpected leader, The Netherlands' Glenn de Bois, who shocked everyone by winning the first race in Chiesa and had a respectable second outing.

New world bronze medallist Éliot Grondin of Canada is the other main contender in the men's competition, having climbed the world podium at the age of 19.
