Organisers expected more than 700 athletes to compete at the Russian Sambo Championships later this month, with places on offer at international events for medallists.

The Russian Sambo Championships are scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 1 in Orenburg.

Organisers say they have held a workshop to help prepare for the National Championships, due to the ongoing issues posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spectator capacity is currently capped at 50 per cent in the Orenburg region in Russia.

Competition is due to take place at the Orenburg sports and cultural complex.

The Russian Sambo Federation has decided that winners will represent the country at the World Sambo Championships.
