The Russian, who battled with illness last year, was one of only four competitors to finish the 20-kilometre course without a penalty. 

He crossed the line in a time of 48min 41.8sec. 

Sturla Holm Lægreid of Norway was 58.5sec off the pace, while Quentin Fillon Maillet of France took third in 49:52.4.

"It has been a hard season for me," Loginov said. 

"I could not find my best shape for a really long time, but I am really happy that I could shoot clean today. 

"I am happy."

Loginov won the sprint title and a pursuit bronze at the 2020 Biathlon World Championships in Italy last February.

Loginov now has five World Championship medals in total, with the sprint title his first gold.

The World Championships also saw Italian police conduct an anti-doping raid on Loginov and his personal coach Alexander Kasperovich.

Loginov opted not to compete in the men’s mass start competition following the raid, where his phone and laptop were taken.

He served a two-year doping ban between 2014 and 2016, having tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO).

Despite finishing 10th, Norway's Johannes Thingnes Bø still leads the World Cup standings with 649 points. 

His brother Tarjei is third on 537, while Lægreid is between the two siblings on 618. 

Competition in Italy is scheduled to continue tomorrow with the men's relay and women's mass start race.
