Tim Dalton is the new President of USA Boccia after James Thomson stepped down.

Thomson had been President since USA Boccia was founded in 2015.

However, "I feel it is time to cultivate new leadership within our ranks", Thomson said in a letter announcing that he was resigning at the end of 2020.

The Board elected Dalton, who had been USA Boccia secretary, to succeed Thomson.

In turn, Thomson will remain on the Board in the role of treasurer until his term expires at the end of 2022.

Thomson said he was "confident in his [Dalton] abilities to guide USA Boccia forward", and pointed to Dalton's "exceptionally long history" of boccia involvement in the United States.

"Looking back on my term of service to the organization, I am extremely proud of the organization’s progress in the time since we founded USA Boccia to take our sport independent in June 2015", Thomson added.

The appointment of a full-time, paid executive director and a part-time compliance manager were both highlighted as demonstrating the strides made by the organisation, as was adding an independent Board director.

"Overall, USA Boccia is poised to emerge from the global pandemic with stronger organizational capabilities and potential to succeed than ever", Thomson, a former boccia athlete and coach, concluded.

Thomson won a silver medal at the Barcelona 1992 Paralympics in the mixed individual C1.
