The United States and Russia confirmed their places in the quarter-finals of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) 2021 World Junior Championship with dominant performances against the Czech Republic and Austria.

In the early match at Rogers Place in Edmonton, the US scored four of their goals when the Czechs were a man down and only opened the scoring thanks to a Bobby Brink goal in the second period.

Trevor Zegras added a second for the US before Brink made it three.

Zegras scored his second in the final period, with goals from Arthur Kaliyev, Cole Caufield and Matthew Boldy ensuring a 7-0 victory for the Americans.

A Russian win in the late game against Austria would ensure both the US and Russia qualified from Group B and they duly delivered.

Austria's fate was sealed early on when they leaked four goals in the first period, with Vasili Podkolzin scoring two.

Senna Peeters bagged the only goal of the second period to put Austria on the board, but goals from Artemi Knyazev, Yegor Afanasiev and Arseni Gritsyuk ensured the Russians came out 7-1 victors.

Both teams sit on six points in second and third with one match to play.

Hosts Canada secured their spot as they continue to sit top of Group A after thrashing bottom-of-the-table Switzerland 10-0.

Philip Tomasino scored the opener in a first period that had only one goal.

However, Dylan Cozens, Jakob Pelletier, Ryan Suzuki and Connor McMichael all got on the scoresheet in the second period to put the game beyond doubt.

More players added to Canada's tally in the final period, with Quinton Byfield scoring a double and Cole Perfetti and Kaiden Guhle scoring too.

Pelletier got his second, making it 10 with less than five minutes to go.

In the penultimate group stage day, Finland will look to stay level on points with Canada with a win over Slovakia.

Germany and Switzerland face off in a match that will decide the final qualifier from Group A and Russia face the unbeaten Sweden.
