Vincent Van Der Voort came back from the brink of defeat while Cameron Carolissen received a bye after his scheduled opponent tested positive for coronavirus, as the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Championship went into its sixth day.

The first round concluded and the second round continued at Alexandra Palace, with the match of the day being the round two all Dutch contest between Van Der Voort and Ron Meulenkamp.

Meulenkamp went two sets up in the contest with a 144 checkout in set two putting him a set away from round three.

Van Der Voort then went on a blistering run of form claiming six of the next seven legs to force a decider.

The deciding set went with throw throughout with Van Der Voort edging the contest by three sets to two.

Elsewhere in the second round England's Ryan Searle prevailed 3-0 against Jeffrey De Zwaan of the Netherlands.

After winning the first set in a deciding leg Searle claimed the second with a 130 finish and the third with an 11 darter to complete the whitewash win.

Meanwhile Wales' Jonny Clayton overcame Scotland's John Henderson 3-1 to also seal his berth in round three.

Clayton took a two set lead before Henderson reeled off five straight legs to reduce the deficit.

After Henderson missed three darts in set four to force a decider Clayton clinched victory.

The first round was also completed today, although one match did not take place after Martijn Kleermaker of the Netherlands tested positive for coronavirus and was ruled out of playing.

This handed his scheduled opponent Cameron Carolissen of South Africa a bye through to round two, as Kleermaker's scheduled replacement Josh Payne of England was unable to play after coming into close contact with another individual who had tested positive for the virus.

In the first round matches that were played, Wales' Nick Kenny, making his debut at the tournament, edged past Derk Telnekes of the Netherlands 3-2.

Kenny twice came from a set down on his way to triumphing, and won the deciding set by three legs to nil to seal his place in round two.

Elsewhere in the final first round matches, England's Jason Lowe beat Russia's Dmitriy Gorbunov 3-1, England's Matthew Edgar defeated Maik Kuivenhoven of the Netherlands 3-0 and England's Keegan Brown overcame compatriot Ryan Meikle 3-0.

Tomorrow sees four second round matches on the schedule, including world number three Gerwen Price of Wales in action against compatriot Jamie Lewis.
