Larisa Iordache enjoyed an impressive return to competition as the Romanian star top scored on the beam and floor at the European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Iordache, a four-time World Championship medallist, was making her first appearance at an international event since tearing her achilles tendon at the 2017 World Championships.

She achieved a score of 13.633 on the beam at the Mersin's Gymnastics Hall in Turkey.

Team-mate Silviana Sfiringu and Ukraine’s Anastasia Bachynska finished adrift on 13.100 and 13.000, respectively.

Iordache also led the way on the floor with her qualification routine scoring 13.433.

Romania’s Antonia Duta finished on 13.200 in second, with Ukraine’s Angelina Radivilova third on 13.066.

Hungary’s Zsofia Kovacs achieved the highest qualification scores in the vault and uneven bars events.

Kovacs achieved a score of 14.049 in the vault, with Ukraine’s Anastasia Motak her nearest challenger on 13.933.

Iordache placed third on 13.716.

The uneven bars saw Kovacs comfortably top the standings on 14.133, with Slovakia’s Barbora Mokosova and Iordache tied for second on 13.566.

Romania led team qualification with a total of 159.496 points, followed by Ukraine and Hungary on 154.986 and 154.129 respectively.

Turkey, Czech Republic and Croatia complete the finalists.

Sixteen federations made the trip to Turkey for the competition, with a total of 88 gymnasts competing across junior and senior events.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, many leading nations in Europe will not make the trip to Turkey, including Britain and Italy.
