Sturla Holm Lægreid claimed the second International Biathlon Union World Cup victory of his career as he led a Norwegian sweep in the men's 10 kilometres sprint in Hochfilzen.

Lægreid shot clean on his way to crossing the line in a time of 23min 04.9sec on the opening day of the second consecutive World Cup at the Austrian venue.

The 23-year-old, who won the 20km individual race at the World Cup in Kontiolahti last month, finished 7.9 seconds clear of compatriot Johannes Dale.

Defending overall champion Johannes Thingnes Bø extended his lead over Sweden's Sebastian Samuelsson at the top of the standings after coming through to take third place.

Bø, the Olympic 20 kilometres individual gold medallist and multiple world champion, has 344 points, 58 clear of Samuelsson in second.

The Norwegian has still only won one race on the World Cup circuit so far this season.

The clean sweep for the country in today's event was the first they have earned for nearly five years, the last coming in January 2016.

"I do not really know what to say, but it was amazing on the skis today," said Lægreid.

"The wax team did a really good job.

"I just did my job on the range to shoot clean.

"It was just amazing.

"I had hopes for today but to stay on top of the podium is a bit too much for me."

The World Cup in Hochfilzen - the last before the festive break - is scheduled to continue with the women's 7.5km sprint tomorrow.
