The Women's Monobob World Series event in Sigulda in Latvia has been cancelled due to complications caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Initially scheduled to have taken place today and yesterday, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) told insidethegames that the event had been axed due to a lack of competitors caused by the virus.

Some of the entries for the two-day competition pulled out, leading the IBSF to make the decision.

"Unfortunately, there was a low number in registration so it was decided to not host the race," an IBSF spokesperson told insidethegames.

"The main reason is the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced teams to skip the Europe Cup in Sigulda."

So far there have been two legs of the Women's Monobob World Series - in Winterberg in Germany and Innsbruck in Austria earlier this month.

With the cancellation of the Sigulda fixture, the next race is set to take place on January 14 2021 in Innsbruck again.
