Los Angeles has made history after the Californian city played host to the first-ever all-women's teqball Challenger Cup.

Pre-tournament favourites Carolyn Greco and Margaret Osmundson, of women's club Bella Teq, claimed gold at the Gol Soccer Complex in North Hollywood.

There was a total of 19 teams and 38 athletes who entered the event.

Greco and Osmundson have had success against male opponents in the past, with the pair finishing fourth in the Challenger Cup doubles events in both San Diego and Houston, before finishing second at the Las Vegas Challenger Cup in November.

This came after a close contest against world number seven doubles team Andres Berriel and Frankie Diaz.

In the women-only event, the duo defeated American pair Anjelyka Brown and Chelsea Patterson 2-0 in the final to take gold having defeated Brazilians Talita Pereira and Fabiola Zanella in the semi-finals.

The Brazilians won the bronze in a tie against Roberta Goulart and Yesenia Reyes.

"This tournament was such a special day," said Greco.

"Personally, it was emotional for me to see this historic Challenger Cup come to fruition.

"I am very humbled by the representation from the world class athletes that were there to compete.

"It was not by any means an easy win, and we are so thrilled to see the level of competition from the women involved with Teqball USA.

"Margi (Osmundson) and I are so excited to have made our second podium appearance in the last two tournaments.

"We have worked so hard and I am very proud of us.

"She is one of my closest friends and there is no greater feeling than standing together in first place.

"This year has been one that was tumultuous but it is moments like this tournament that makes me realise all the good that we have to be grateful for in 2020.

"Margi and I still have a lot to learn and grow in the sport and Bella Teq is not stopping here."
