New dates next year have been confirmed for the USA Boxing National Championships in Shreveport.

Competition is planned to take place between March 25 and April 3 at the Shreveport Convention Center.

Dates of between December 5 and 12 had been set but the event was shifted into 2021 last month because of COVID-19 complications.

The virus is not the only factor which has disrupted the event, with Shreveport stepping in to replace Lake Charles as host in September after the impact of Hurricane Laura.

Three extra days of competition have been scheduled next year to allow for a "soft start" to the event in Louisiana.

It is hoped this will give boxers, coaches, officials and staff the opportunity to adjust to COVID-19 mitigation procedures which will be in place.

USA Boxing has confirmed that, as things stand, no fans will be able to watch the action.

This policy will be revaluated a minimum of six weeks before the competition.

"The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission worked hard to accommodate USA Boxing making adjustments to their schedule to meet our needs," said USA Boxing event coordinator Taryn Cass.

"We feel confident that the new dates will allow us to host a successful event and enable us to provide the experience that our members expect and deserve in a safe environment."

All those who registered for the December tournament will have their registration transferred to the new dates.
