Hosts Turkey landed two golds on a historic final day of the European Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Mersin.

Ibrahim Çolak became the first Turkish gymnast to win a world title last year and made history once again when he claimed his country’s maiden European crown.

The pressure was on Çolak, but he rose to the challenge, clinching gold on the rings with 15.000 points.

Vinzenz Hoeck bagged Austria’s first medal of the event with a silver ahead of 2013 European champion Igor Radivilov of Ukraine.

Turkey’s day got even better when Ferhat Arican cruised to victory in the parallel bars with 15.100, seeing off Petro Pakhniuk of Ukraine and Robert Tvorogal of Lithuania.

Tvorogal, a 2019 European Games champion, struck gold in the high bar with a score of 14.800, defeating 2017 world champion Tin Srbić of Croatia.

Israel’s Alexander Myakinin clinched bronze.

After four silvers on the vault at previous European Championships, Radivilov finally hit the jackpot.

With two strong and difficult vaults, Radivilov - the London 2012 bronze medallist - notched 14.733 to narrowly edge out Yahor Sharamkou of Belarus.

Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat claimed the bronze medal ahead of Romanian star Marian Dragulescu, whose first vault was downgraded.

The floor competition was won by Dolgopyat with 15.000, while Croatian Aurel Benovic and Sharamkou clinched silver and bronze respectively.

Albanian Matvei Petrov won gold on the pommel house with 14.566, ahead of Filip Ude of Croatia and Arican.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun boosted his junior medal haul with three golds and a silver on a sensational day for the teenager.

After helping Ukraine win the team and taking the all-around honours, Kovtun collected three more European crowns.

Kovtun clinched top spot in the pommel horse, rings and parallel bars as well as a silver on the vault to boost his medal tally to six.

His parallel bars routine was in a league of its own as she racked up 14.600 points - almost a point higher than silver medallist Mykyta Melnykov, also of Ukraine.

Mert Efe Kilicer of the host nation claimed bronze.

On the rings, Kovtun took the title with 13.266, finishing ahead of compatriot Volodymyr Kostiuk and Bora Tarhan of Turkey.

The 17-year-old, a quadruple gold medallist at last year’s European Youth Summer Olympic Festival, completed his hat-trick when he won the pommel horse competition with 14.233.

Gytis Chasazyvoras of Lithuania and Eyal Indig of Israel both clinched silver after finishing on 13.366.

Kovtun was denied a fourth gold on the vault as Romania’s Gabriel Burtănete came out on top with 14.283 while Tarhan secured bronze.

The high bar competition was won by Hungarian Krisztián Balázs with 13.366 ahead of Kilicer and Kostiuk.

Chasazyvoras backed up his pommel horse silver by securing gold on floor as he triumphed with 13.733.

Ivan Sevruk of Ukraine claimed silver while Botond Molnar of Hungary bagged bronze.

Today was the last day of the European Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Baku in Azerbaijan was due to stage the competition before it was moved to Mersin due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Teams from Russia, Italy and Britain pulled out of the event because of coronavirus concerns.
