Competition had been scheduled to take place at Lahti in Finland next month.

Teams were due to compete from January 28 to 31.

The IBSA says it consulted with the local Organising Committee following feedback from the teams, with several citing concerns over travel restrictions and the worsening coronavirus situation in Europe.

"We have been contacted by some countries who say they are experiencing travel restrictions that are in place through January 2021 or they anticipate travel restrictions that would mean they are unable to compete," said Alexey Baryaev, the competition technical delegate.

"A couple of countries are also not comfortable with traveling at a time when the pandemic is worsening in Europe.

"In addition, whilst the organisers and IBSA Goalball have made every effort to ensure the competition could go ahead - including the introduction of a quarantine period on arrival and mandatory testing - teams have expressed concerns about the impacts should any of them receive a positive test.

"We are working to find new dates for this important competition and are still looking-forward to staging the competition in Finland when we can."

Men’s and women’s teams were due to compete for promotion to the European Championships A pool at the event.

It was anticipated that 10 men's teams and eight women's sides would compete in Finland, including the host nation in the women's competition.

Pajulahti Olympic and Paralympic Training Centre was set to host all games.

Afula in Israel was due to host the competition from October 15 to 22 this year, but local organisers concluded it was not possible to stage it because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The IBSA says the remainder of its 2021 competition schedule remains unchanged to date.

Major upcoming events include the IBSA Goalball Americas Championships in São Paulo, scheduled from June 13 to 20.

The Asia-Pacific Championships at Asan in South Korea and the European Championships Group C event in Romania are both scheduled for November 2021.
