Russia has confirmed its intention to host the 2021 European Breaking Championships in Sochi.

All-Russian Federation of Dance Sports and Acrobatic Rock and Roll executive director Vadim Permyakov confirmed a bid had been lodged.

"Russia has applied to host the European Breaking Championship in 2021," Permyakov told Russian state news agency TASS.

"We hope for a positive solution to this issue, then the first ever European Breaking Championship will be held in Sochi.

"Leading breakers of Europe and Russia will take part in the tournament."

The European Championships will be overseen by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).

Russia is currently the sole bidder listed for the European Championships on the WDSF website.

Bids are also being sought for the upcoming Breaking World Championships, as well as the junior version of the event.

Next year's World Breaking Championships is scheduled to take place on June 20.

The event was due to take place in August in Nanjing, but was moved to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Breaking will make its Olympic debut at Paris 2024.

Skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and breaking were proposed as additional sports by Paris 2024 in March last year.

Provisional approval was then granted at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session last June, with the final decision subject to an 18-month monitoring period.

The decision was ratified by the IOC Executive Board earlier this week.

Breaking competition at Paris 2024 will feature 16 male and female athletes, known as b-boys and b-girls.

Athletes will compete in one against one "battles".

Russia's Sergey Chernyshev won the b-boys title at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
