The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has appointed two agencies to run its global communications and media strategy, as it aims to further develop the brand of the sport.

Amsterdam-based Ogilvy Social Lab and London-based Fifty Digital were chosen following an open tender process which saw 17 agencies take part.

Ogilvy will focus on positioning, brand strategy, design and digital and social media communication, as well as the creative development of new campaigns and a media strategy leading up to the 2022 FIVB Volleyball World Championships.

Fifty Digital, which recently won the Young Agency of the Year prize at the Sport Industry Awards 2020, will support the FIVB with its digital communications in regards to fan and community engagement.

"The FIVB is delighted to be working together with Ogilvy Social Lab and Fifty Digital on promoting our beloved sport on the road to the FIVB Volleyball World Championships 2022, which we are striving to make the most popular and engaging event of 2022 on court, in the stands and digitally," said Fernando Lima, FIVB secretary general.

"The FIVB has a truly global reach with 222 national federations around the world.

"Volleyball is played in every continent by players of all ages, genders and backgrounds and is one of the most loved sports in the world with hundreds of millions of passionate fans.

"However, we recognise we have so much room for future growth and through these strategic and creative partnerships we will further explore the global potential of our sport."

The FIVB stated that brainstorm sessions and presentations for the positions took place via video call, with organisers of both the men's and women's editions of the FIVB Volleyball World Championships involved as well as FIVB stakeholders.

Russia is due to host the 2022 Men's World Championships, while the women's event is scheduled to be co-hosted by The Netherlands and Poland.
