The 2020 Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) Championship is set to take place at the famous Daytona International Speedway in Florida, with Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee among those in the field.

There will be both men's and women's races tomorrow, taking place over 100 kilometres in Daytona Beach.

The first 2km will be a swim on Lake Lloyd, followed by an 80km cycle - 20 laps of a 4km course - and finally 18km of running, consisting of four laps of the speedway.

A total of $100,000 (£74,400/€82,500) will be given to the winners of each race, with Britain's Brownlee being one of the standout names in the men's field.

The reigning back-to-back Olympic champion, Brownlee will be looking to end 2020 on a high note heading into an Olympic year.

His brother, reigning Olympic silver medallist Jonathan, was given a wild-card entry for the event, along with France's world champion Vincent Luis and South Africa's Henri Schoeman.

Schoeman won Olympic bronze at Rio 2016.

Spain's five-time world champion Javier Gómez is also on the start list, as is Ironman 70.3 world champion Gustav Iden of Norway.

In the women's race, 2016's Ironman 70.3 world champion Holly Lawrence of Britain is one of the favourites for the title due to her pedigree over longer distances.

Switzerland's Nicola Spirig was the London 2012 champion and will fancy her chances too.

Germany's Anne Haug and Laura Philipp, also well-versed over the distance, are other athletes expected to compete for medals.

Florida, where the event is taking place, is suffering from a particularly severe coronavirus outbreak.

The state record more than 10,000 new cases yesterday, and more than 19,000 people have died from the illness.
