George Chrysostomou has been elected as the sixth President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee ©COC

George Chrysostomou has been elected as the sixth President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) succeeding Dinos Michaelides.

Chrysostomou was elected to the role at the COC's General Assembly, held in person last month.

During the previous cycle between 2016 and 2020 Chrysostomou served as vice-president but has now been elected to the top role.

The elections, which were covered by Cypriot television saw Mr. Yiotis Ioannides elected as vice-president, Mr. Andreas Georgiou elected as secretary general and Mr. Alexandros Christoforou as treasurer.

Elections concluded with the voting for the members of the Executive Board.

The elected members are Andreas Theofylaktou, Sotos Trikomitis, Pavlos Georgiadis, George Apostolou, Demetris Leontis, George Papageorgiou and Odysseas Patsalides.

At the first meeting of the new Executive Board Mrs. Clea Hadjistephanou-Papaellina was appointed as an Executive Board member.

Before his involvement with the COC, Chrysostomou served as President of the Cyprus Basketball Federation (CBF) between 2004 and 2014 and on the Board of the CBF from 1995.

During the first Executive Board meeting, Chrysostomou congratulated members on their elections and set the goals for the new Board for the next four years.
