Sergei Eliseev has been re-elected President of the European Sambo Federation (ESF) at the body's Congress.

Eliseev, who heads the All-Russian Sambo Federation and is also a vice-president of the International Sambo Federation, was unanimously chosen to serve another four-year term.

Italian Roberto Ferraris remains secretary general, while Angel Jimenez of Spain and Patrick Drid of Serbia have been appointed ESF vice-presidents.

Eight members of the Executive Committee and representatives from 22 member federations took part in the ESF Congress in Novi Sad in Serbia.

"I am grateful to the delegates of the ESF Congress for supporting my candidacy during the voting," Eliseev told insidethegames.

"Our main goal for the coming years is to increase the number of National Sambo Federations and clubs in Europe.

"We also want to implement our successful 'Sambo to School' project in most European countries; and of course, we plan to expand sambo representation in multisport competitions."

Eliseev has led European sambo since 2004.

Speaking at the Congress, Eliseev also stressed the importance of more national governing bodies receiving National Olympic Committee recognition.

Only 21 of the ESF's 36 members and three candidate members have achieved this.
