The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed the finalists in its Inclusive Sports Challenge, organised as part of the United Through Sports International Virtual Youth Festival.

Five finalists have been listed in the under-12 and under-18 categories, with the medallists due to be announced during the November 20 to 22 festival.

The IPC said it received 138 entries from across all regions of the world in the two-week application period.

Youngsters were asked to perform an exercise routine of their choice for 60 seconds maximum.

They then had to explain their motivation to participate in the challenge and what world leaders need to do to create a more accessible and inclusive future for all people for 45 seconds in front of a camera.

"It has been a treat to watch the enthusiasm of youngsters around the world towards sports and listen to their optimistic and inspiring messages," said Paralympic Committee of India President Deepa Malik, a member of the judging panel for the challenge.

The festival, backed by the IPC and other bodies including the International Olympic Committee, will include young people from participating International Federations, but also from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Indigenous communities and people from vulnerable backgrounds who are often marginalised by society will also be encouraged to participate.

The festival will include virtual medal ceremonies, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and will incorporate a platform of education by including an opening conference, panel discussions and workshops.

Peace through sport, inclusion and non-discrimination, athletes’ roles and responsibilities, safeguarding and child protection are among the main topics due to be discussed at the festival.

More than 100 youth ambassadors, together with the leaders of sport and all participating entities, will make a unified call to action towards a "more inclusive and better tomorrow".

The online activities will form part of a hybrid event, along with an in-person event in Thailand.
