Banned Russian bobsleigh athletes Alexander Kasjanov, Ilvir Khuzin and Alexei Pushkarev say they plan to return to the sport when their sanction concludes next month.

The trio were banned from the sport after they were implicated in the Sochi 2014 doping scandal, alongside Alexander Zubkov.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) last week upheld the original decision to ban the four athletes for two years.

The four athletes appealed to reduce the sentence while the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) wanted to increase it to four years.

CAS dismissed the appeals of both sides and confirmed the decision by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Hearing Panel on January 16, 2019 "in its entirety".

The IBSF had accepted an earlier CAS ruling that the athletes had been part of Russia's state-sponsored doping programme, which had led to the bans being imposed.

Kasjanov, Khuzin and Pushkarev will see their sanctions conclude on December 12.

Zubkov, who was stripped of Olympic two- and four-man titles from Sochi 2014, will see his sanction end on December 18 but has been retired for more than five years.

He had been forced to step down as Russian Bobsleigh Federation (RBF) President as a result of the suspension imposed by the IBSF.

Kasjanov, Khuzin and Pushkarev each say they plan to return to competition.

"I intend to return to the sport after the end of the disqualification,” Kasjanov told the Russian official state news agency TASS.

“Now I independently maintain physical shape, but I do not have the right to do special work yet."

Khuzin added: "I am going to resume my sports career."

Pushkarev has also said he plans to return, with the 34-year-old currently training alone.

Kasjanov, Pushkarev and Khuzin were stripped of their Sochi 2014 Olympic bronze medals from in the four-man event, which Zubkov's sled had won before also being disqualified.
