South Africa started their title defence of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Championship with a 2-0 win against Angola.

South Africa utilised their home advantage to dominate against Angola at the Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Lonathemba Mhlongo opened the scoring for the hosts in the 40th minute, with Karabo Dhlamini doubling the lead in the 61st minute.

South Africa are now level on points with Eswatini at the top of Group A.

In a dramatic match, Eswatini overturned a 2-0 deficit against Comoros to triumph 4-2.

Abdourahmane Hairyat put Comoros 1-0 up in the 15th minute, with Anlaouia Hadhiroimi making it 2-0 shortly after the interval.

Phumzile Dlamini began the Eswatini comeback in the 65th minute, before Tenanile Mgcamphalala drew the teams level in the 75th minute and Mokgale Nonjabuliso put her country in front in the dying minutes of the match.

Dlamini grabbed her second goal in added time to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Competition is scheduled to continue tomorrow with Zambia against Lesotho in Group B, followed by Zimbabwe's clash with Tanzania in Group C.

This year’s competition is the eighth edition of the tournament.

South Africa have won the tournament on six occasions, including the inaugural event in 2002.

Zimbabwe are the only other champions after they beat South Africa 1-0 in the 2011 final.
