Biathlon world champion Alexander Loginov will join the Russian team on the final part of their training camp on November 8 prior to the new season.

Loginov has been training separately from the Russian team for several months.

He began preparing for the upcoming season in July, but was forced to postpone his training regime in early August due to illness.

Loginov later began a training camp in Sochi separate from the main Russian team.

Matvey Eliseev and Karim Khalili are also training separately.

Khalili is expected to join Loginov at the final part of the team’s training camp on November 8, while Eliseev is due to continue training alone until the World Cup season begins on November 27 in Finland.

"The men's team in Tyumen is scheduled to have two control training sessions, the women's team - three, since they started the training camp earlier," head coach Valery Polkhovsky told the Russian Biathlon Union website.

"I would like to note that Alexander Loginov, who has a personal quota, will participate in the control tests.

"Loginov did not run the summer starts due to an elbow injury and he needs to check his readiness.

"In addition to him, Matvey Eliseev, Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht, Larisa Kuklina and Svetlana Mironova have personal quotas.

"The rest of the World Cup participants will be named at the training camp in Tyumen.

"The composition determined by the coaching staff will hold four stages of the World Cup - there is no point in changing anything unless force majeure situations intervene."

Loginov won the sprint title and a pursuit bronze at the 2020 Biathlon World Championships in Italy in February.

He now has five World Championship medals in total, with the sprint title his first gold.

The World Championships also saw Italian police conduct an anti-doping raid on Loginov and his personal coach Alexander Kasperovich.

Loginov opted not to compete in the men’s mass start competition following the raid, where his phone and laptop were taken.

He served a two-year doping ban between 2014 and 2016, having tested positive for Erythropoietin (EPO).

Loginov's pair of medals were the only ones won by Russia at last year's World Championships.
