The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has confirmed three Indian players have been forced to withdraw from the SaarLorLux Open 2020 after they came into contact with a member of their team who tested positive for COVID-19.

Defending champion Lakshya Sen, Ajay Jayaram and Subhankar Dey will now not be allowed to compete further in the tournament, which started on October 27, as a precautionary measure.

Sen's father is believed to have been responsible for the positive test within the Indian camp.

He was set to be in action in the second round of the tournament against Howard Shu of the United States after receiving a bye in the first round.

Shu was given a walkover into the third round along with another North American, Brian Yang of Canada.

Yang was set to face Dey in the second eound, with the Indian sixth seed also receiving a first-round bye.

Only unseeded Jayaram had to play an opening round match as he defeated Belgium's Maxime Moreels 21-8, 21-8.

However, his second round match was also cancelled, allowing Dutch third seed Mark Caljouw to progress to the third round.

All three players have returned negative COVID-19 tests and are reportedly in good health.

In line with the BWF's guidelines, all three players and the team entourage have been placed in isolation.

Nineteen-year-old Sen is a silver medallist from the boy's singles competition at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

He also won bronze at the Asia Team Championships in the men's team competition with Dey in 2020.

The SaarLorLux Open 2020 at Saarlandhalle in the German city of Saarbrücken is scheduled to finish on Sunday (November 1).
