South Korea is set to stage the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball Asia-Pacific Championships for the first time after Asan was named as next year’s host city.

The competition is scheduled to take place at the Asan National Sports Centre for the Disabled from November 1 to 11 in 2021.

It will be organised in a city in South Chungcheong Province and which borders the Seoul Metropolitan Area to the north by the Korean Goalball Federation.

As well as the regional title being on offer, the winning men’s and women’s teams will qualify for the 2022 IBSA Goalball World Championships in Hangzhou in China.

Kari Rasanen, chair of the IBSA Goalball Committee, said: "We are excited to be heading to South Korea for an Asia-Pacific Championships for the first time.

"It shows great promise for the growth of goalball in Asia, especially as it will be the third consecutive year the competition is hosted in a new country.

"We are also pleased to add yet another event to the calendar for 2021, joining other regional championships and the worlds announced recently.

"With 2020 being a difficult year, we are happy to be able to keep the calendar mostly on track and are looking forward to seeing teams back on court very soon."

After a gap in competitions due to coronavirus, the 2021 IBSA Goalball European Championships B is due to be held in Pajulahti in Finland from January 27 to 31.

The 2021 European C Championships in Târgu-Mureş in Romania, is expected to take place from April 11 to 18.

São Paulo in Brazil is set to host the 2021 Americas Championships from June 13 to 20 and the Youth World Championships from March 15 to 20 in 2022.

Last year’s Asia-Pacific Championships was held in Chinese city Chiba where Japan won the women’s title and China clinched the men’s crown.
