Sara Rosario is set to be re-elected President of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) after the organisation confirmed she would stand unopposed for the position later this month.

Rosario, the first female COPUR President, was elected in 2012 and will secure another four-year term at the helm when the National Olympic Committee holds its elections at an extraordinary meeting on Saturday (October 31).

The COPUR confirmed Rosario, the Chef de Mission of the Puerto Rico team at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, was the only candidate for President.

Nominations for President and other places on the COPUR Executive Board closed last week.

Puerto Rico won its first Olympic gold medal during Rosario's second term as President when Monico Puig claimed the women's singles tennis title at Rio 2016.

Rosario has grown in prominence in sports administration since her election as COPUR President.

She served as an Americas representative on the Association of National Olympic Committees Executive Council until 2016 and chairs Panam Sports' Coordination Commission for the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games.

Rosario was also put in charge of the process to find a new host 2022 Central American and Caribbean Games after Panama withdrew because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
